Vinod Kambli opens up about the inspiration behind his numerous centuries, explaining how he found motivation from a higher power.
Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, who has recently been in the news owing to alcohol-related health difficulties, grew emotional while remembering on his playing days at Wankhede Stadium's 50th anniversary festivities on Sunday. The 52-year-old was recently hospitalized, which concerned his followers. However, his attendance at the occasion provided relief to many of his admirers.
In an interview with ANI at the event, Kambli reminisced about his playing days, particularly the moment he scored his first Test double century against England at Wankhede Stadium. He shared a poignant story about feeling inspired from above to achieve centuries, revealing the secret behind his many accomplishments.
“I remember scoring my first double hundred here against England, and that was the start of many more centuries in my career,” an emotional Kambli shared.
Vinod Kambli, formerly regarded as one of Indian cricket's brightest talents, rose to prominence with the renowned Sachin Tendulkar in the 1990s. While Tendulkar rose to the status of cricket's 'God,' Kambli became embroiled in off-field scandals, which eventually led to his retirement from international cricket.

In a message to young cricketers, Kambli encourages them to pursue their objectives with unyielding dedication. He emphasizes the importance of hard effort and perseverance in accomplishing the goal of representing India, based on his personal experiences with Sachin Tendulkar.
“If you want to play for India like me or Sachin (Tendulkar), my advice is to keep working hard and never stop, because that’s what Sachin and I did from our childhood,” Kambli recalled.
Along with Vinod Kambli's emotional remarks, cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, and Dilip Vengsarkar will attend the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) big celebrations at Wankhede Stadium.
To commemorate this historic event, the MCA will release a coffee table book on January 19, along with the introduction of a commemorative postal stamp. Furthermore, the MCA will recognize the invaluable services of the groundsmen and Mumbai team players who took part in the inaugural first-class match at Wankhede Stadium in 1974.
