The tremors, including a 7.2-magnitude quake, caused structural damage and panic in Myanmar and neighboring Thailand.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), another earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter Scale jolted Myanmar at 11:56 pm (local time) on Friday. The latest earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km, making it susceptible to aftershocks.
The NCS reported the earthquake was recorded at Latitude 22.15 N and Longitude 95.41 E. In a post on X, the National Center for Seismology wrote, "EQ of M: 4.2, On: 28/03/2025 23:56:29 IST, Lat: 22.15 N, Long: 95.41 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Myanmar."
Earlier in the day, Myanmar was jolted by a series of tremors, including a major earthquake of magnitude 7.2 on the Richter Scale that occurred at 11:50 am (local time). The powerful tremor was felt in Bangkok and several parts of Thailand, with eyewitness reports and local media accounts noting that hundreds of people rushed out of swaying buildings in Bangkok. Several posts on social media showed water splashing out of swimming pools due to the quake's intensity.
According to the NCS, the 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers and was recorded at Latitude 21.93 N and Longitude 96.07 E. In a post on X, NCS stated, "EQ of M: 7.2, On: 28/03/2025 11:50:52 IST, Lat: 21.93 N, Long: 96.07 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Myanmar."
The earthquake at around 11:50 am IST was followed by an aftershock of 6.4-magnitude minutes later. The National Center for Seismology said that an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 on the Richter scale hit Myanmar, stating that it was the third aftershock, following the first 7.2 magnitude on the Richter scale.
A 30-story skyscraper under construction in the Chatuchak district also collapsed due to the quake, according to the publication. As per The Nation News, which cited Thailand's National Institute for Emergency Medicine, 43 workers were trapped in the underconstruction building.
Video obtained by CNN from Myanmar appeared to show a road bridge spanning the Irrawaddy River, which runs through Mandalay, collapsing into the river in a cloud of dust and water.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, on Saturday, stated that under "Operation Bramha", India has sent 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Myanmar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the Myanmar military junta chief, Min Aung Hlaing, and offered condolences on the loss of lives in the earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday. He expressed India's readiness to stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar in this difficult hour. He said that disaster relief material, humanitarian assistance, and search and rescue teams are being expeditiously dispatched to the affected areas as part of Operation Brahma. "Spoke with Senior General H.E. Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar. Conveyed our deep condolences at the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake. As a close friend and neighbour, India stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar in this difficult hour. Disaster relief material, humanitarian assistance, search & rescue teams are being expeditiously dispatched to the affected areas as part of #OperationBrahma," PM Modi said in a post on X.
India handed over the relief material to Myanmar on Saturday following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the country on Friday. India's Ambassador to Myanmar, Abhay Thakur, handed over relief material to Yangon's Chief Minister, U Soe Thein. In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, "Operation Brahma: India hands over the relief material to Myanmar. The first consignment of relief material was formally handed over to Chief Minister of Yangon U Soe Thein by Ambassador Abhay Thakur in Yangon today."
Under contruction building collapsed in front of JJ Mall in Chatuchak market in Thailand's capital, Bangkok, as an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude, which occurred in Myanmar's Mandalay, was felt across Thailand, China and Vietnam. As many as 10 people died, 16 people were injured, and 101 others were missing at three construction sites in Bangkok, including the collapse of a 30-storey government building, according to Bangkok Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej, Bangkok Post reported. Pasakorn Boonyalak, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said the earthquake caused damage in Bangkok and 10 other provinces, including Chiang Rai, Phrae, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Chai Nat, Lamphun, Loei, Samut Sakhon, Chiang Mai, and Kamphaeng Phet. Thailand's Meteorological Department said on Saturday that two additional earthquakes were detected in Mae Hong Son. (ANI)
The Death toll from the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar has jumped to 694, and 1670 people have been injured, the country's military junta said on Saturday, CNN reported. The figures were only for the Mandalay region in the center of the country and near the epicenter of the earthquake. Myanmar's military junta said 68 people were missing in the Mandalay region. The death toll from the earthquake that struck central Myanmar could exceed 10,000, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimated according to their early modeling on Friday.
The USGS issued a red alert for the estimated fatalities of the earthquake, indicating "high casualties and extensive damage." Myanmar's military junta has made a plea for international assistance following the massive earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday. Tremors were felt through rural villages caught in the middle of Myanmar's civil war, all the way to the high-rises of Thailand's capital, Bangkok. Shaking was even felt across the border in China's Yunnan province, CNN reported.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 jolted Afghanistan on Saturday at 5:16 am (IST), the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said. According to NCS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 180 kilometers. The NCS said the earthquake was recorded at Latitude 36.50 N and Longitude 71.12 E. In neighboring Thailand, at least 10 people have been confirmed dead, including several victims of a skyscraper collapse near Bangkok’s Chatuchak market. Approximately 70 people remain missing and are feared to be trapped in the debris.

India will send the relief materials to Myanmar aboard an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J aircraft from Air Force Station Hindon, sources stated. According to sources, the relief package includes tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat meals, water purifiers, hygiene kits, solar lamps, generator sets, and essential medicines such as paracetamol, antibiotics, syringes, gloves, and bandages.
