Even in your wildest dreams, have you ever thought that wearing a Saree and Petticoat may lead to skin cancer? Let's get to discover it further.

In India, wearing Saree and Petticoat is deeply ingrained in our culture and fashion. While the origin of the trend dates back to ancient times, it is still a part of every Indian woman's wardrobe.

But, even in your wildest dreams, have you ever thought that wearing a Saree and Petticoat may lead to skin cancer? Yes, you heard that right. A research has shown that wearing tight petticoats teamed with sarees draped around the waist can put a lot of pressure on the abdomen, causing skin cancer.

While wearing a Saree, many women tighten their petticoats (or underskirts), which can cause rashes, itching or other skin issues, ultimately generating the risk of cancer, doctors have observed.

Over time, skin cancer may result from the tight petticoats increasing pressure on the waist and consistent rubbing on the skin.

Causes of Saree and Petticoat cancer

Some of the prominent causes of Saree and Petticoat cancer include continuous friction from the tight waist string, daily pressure on the abdomen from the pleats of Saree, sweat or moisture, absence of sunlight in such parts of the body.

Symptoms

Symptoms of Saree and Petticoat cancer include - Darkening of the skin around the waist, red, itchy patches, formation of ulcers, and raised lumps around the waist.

Preventive measures

As per a report by India Today, Dr Nataraj Naidu, Consultant Surgical Oncologist, SPARSH Hospital, Bangalore, suggest that women opt for looser, breathable fabric. They should ensure proper hygeine and follow regular skincare routines.

Moreover, they should avoid wearing a saree on a regular basis and go for skin examination, in case, they develop unusual signs.
